Claudelands chase back-to-back wins

Currently sitting fourth on the Lotto NRFL Men’s Second Division league table, WaiBOP outfit, Claudelands Rovers turn their attention to fifth place Albany United, after an impressive 4-1 victory over Metro last weekend.

Wary of Albany’s 3-2 defeat to Ngongotaha last weekend, Claudelands Boss, Mark Cossey still sees the clash as a hard fixture, and is preparing his players for the challenging task ahead.

“Albany have got a reasonably good side, but then again, they lost in the weekend to Ngongotaha, so the matches are based on who turns up to play on the day, and Albany can be very tough on their day.”

“We will look at how we want to play on Thursday at training, and then we will go through how we want to take it to the game on Saturday.”

“Considering we’re quite adaptable, if Albany want to play that high pressing game, then we will adapt to how they want to play and how we want to play them.”

Last week’s 4-1 win over Metro saw the dismissal of top goal scorers, Jono Viviani and Bailey Webster, who will miss the trip to Rosedale Park on the weekend.

With five goals each to their names this season, Cossey grasps on the chance of bringing in some of Claudelands development players who will be searching for the opportunity to keep their place in the team.

“Both players have been fantastic for us so far this season, with Jono [Viviani] we normally played him at left/right back, but we moved him to the top of the field this season and he’s having a world beater.”

“Losing both Jono and Bailey [Webster] for the Albany match are huge losses for us, but it’s a squad game, so realistically the players who are going to take their positions for this weekend’s fixture are now going to have to try and keep them out.”

“That’s the game and that’s why we train, the players train to play and when an opportunity comes up, they’ve got to take it.”

The match will kick off at 3pm at Rosedale Park on Saturday.
