D2: Fencibles United assert early control

Fencibles United have taken control of the Lotto NRFL Second Division race after a late 2-1 win over Te Atatu United at Riverhills Park today.

Sean Latimer had earlier given Fencibles United a 1-0 lead but Eddie Malua equalised for Te Atatu just shy of the hour mark.

Enter Max Kwan who with just three minutes left to play scored the winner to ensure Fencibles United make it the perfect start to the campaign.

Takapuna AFC picked up a win when Connor Taylor’s first half strike gave them a 1-0 away win at Northland FC.

Mangere United reigned supreme in the South Auckland derby after they pulverised Papatoetoe AFC 5-0. One-time FIFA Club World Cup penalty shoot-out hero Sanni Issa opened the scoring on six minutes to hand Mangere United the initiative.

The second half was all about United as Prashil Kumar smashed a hat-trick to go alongside Sandip Raj Singh’s goal.

Onehunga-Mangere United and Ngongotaha shared four goals in a 2-2 draw with the South Waikato outfit coming back twice. Tom Knight had Onehunga-Mangere up 1-0 within three minutes only for Yamil Casas to equalise shortly after. Alexander Statham made it 2-1 to stamp Onehunga-Mangere’s mark on the game but an Alan Ferguson goal just before the hour mark levelled the game.

Claudelands Rovers showed they’ll be a different prospect this season than last after a 3-0 win over Albany United. Hamish Comber, Ewan Bussey and Mas Manresa goals ensured coach Rodi Rojas and his team returned to their Hamilton-base with maximum points.

Waiheke United’s clash with Papakura City is scheduled for Sunday 2 April with a 2.45pm kick-off.
