PREVIEW | Lotto NRFL Men’s RD 10

With round one of the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup taking place around the country this weekend, Lotto NRFL Men’s action is limited to the Premier League only this week.

Headlining round 10 of the Lotto NRFL Premier League is a Sunday match-up between reigning champions Central United and table toppers Onehunga Sports.

Sports’ Head Coach Hiroshi Miyazawa is expecting Aaron McFarland to field a different Central team this Sunday, then that of previous weeks, due to the completion of the Oceania Champions League which Auckland City FC won for a seventh time.

“Obviously, Central haven’t been getting good results so far this season, however with the Auckland City campaign just finishing I am sure some of their players will be available against us so we are expecting a completely different team on Sunday,” says Miyazawa.

“I would prefer to be in this situation as I’d rather play against their best squad because it will be a quality technical game rather than just a physical game which we will definitely enjoy more.”

Miyazawa puts his side’s successful start to the season down to the player’s ability to understand and implement their style of football.

“I think our players are understanding more and getting used to play our style of football and because of that, our performances have been consistent this season.

“I haven’t done anything different from previous seasons, our philosophy and concepts are always the same and the squad hasn’t changed much either.”

On Saturday, Glenfield Rovers will look to keep the pressure on Sports, by backing up last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Eastern Suburbs when they host Hamilton Wanderers, while Suburbs travel to Olympic Park to take on Bay Olympic.

Third place Birkenhead United welcome East Coast Bays to Shepherds Park on a day Three Kings United and Manurewa go head to head at Keith Hay Park.

Rounding out Saturday’s action, Forrest Hill Milford will be hoping to pick up their third win of the season against Waitakere City who currently sit in fourth spot.
