PREVIEW | Lotto NRFL Men’s RD 14/15

Waiheke Island is the place to be this Saturday as Onetangi Sports Park plays host to Division Two’s top of the table Fencibles United.

The men from East Auckland can expect the Hills to be filled with Waiheke supporters as the home side gear up for their biggest match of the season.

“It’s a very special game for us,” Waiheke United’s Emi Candia said.

“We are very excited to play Fencibles at home and we are hoping to get a good result.

“We know it’s going to be a very tough game because these guys are doing amazing in the league but we are really going to try and get the three points.”

Candia and his team are well aware of the threat Fencibles pose up front, with Daniel Rattray’s side having scored an impressive 51 goals already this season.

“Each of us have to give 100% and press them all the time and take all of our chances.

“Hopefully we can score some goals and be solid at the back because they have a number of top goal scorers so it’s not just one player we have to worry about, there’s a lot of them that can score; we need to be focussed for 90 minutes.”

Earlier in the season, a number of Waiheke supporters descended onto William Green Domain, however this weekend will certainly provide a much different spectacle for Rattray’s side.

“There is a big group of people who always come to support us,” Candia said.

“For us it is amazing and is always a plus for us to see people there cheering for us. We are working hard this week to bring as many people as possible because we are preparing a big party for everyone to come and enjoy Waiheke’s crowd.”

In other Division Two matches, Claudelands Rovers have a chance to leap-frog their opponents Mangere United with a victory while Te Atatu can also achieve such a feat when they host Ngongotaha.

Papatoetoe’s Mudoch Park is Papakura City’s destination on a day Albany United welcome Northland to Rosedale park and Takapuna travel to the Mangere Mountain to face Onehunga Mangere.

Gower Park hosts the Division One feature match with Melville United welcoming North Shore United to their home turf.

Franklin United will hope to lift themselves off the bottom of the table with a win over Tauranga City United and hope Mt Albert Ponsonby take points off Metro.

Oratia United face a trip north to Hibiscus Coasts’ Stanmore Bay while Manukau City welcome Ellerslie to Walter Massey Park.

Waitemata and Western Springs round out the Divisions action under lights at Seddon Fields with a 5:30pm kick-off.

It’s a top of the table clash in the Premier League with Birkenhead United hosting Onehunga Sports. Paul Hobson’s men will be hoping to turn around their previous result against Sports which ended in a 3-0 defeat.

At the other end of the table, Hamilton Wanderers will fancy their chances of picking up their first Premier League win since round four when they host bottom place Manurewa while East Coast Bays will move further up the ladder if they can defeat Three Kings United.

Fourth versus fifth clash at Olympic Park with Bay Olympic hosting Central United on a day Glenfield Rovers and Waitakere City do battle at McFetridge Park.

Rounding out Saturday’s action is a tasty mid-table clash between Eastern Suburbs and Forrest Hill Milford.
