PREVIEW | Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier RD3

A local derby headlines a full round of Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier action on Good Friday.

Four of the five unbeaten teams meet with Keith Hay Park set to host one of them as the reigning champions welcome Glenfield Rovers while Norwest United will look to continue their unbeaten run when they host Eastern Suburbs.

The fifth side to remain unbeaten, Claudelands Rovers, will travel to Porritt Stadium for the first WaiBOP derby of the season against Hamilton Wanderers.

Rovers coach David Hayes says his side are looking to add to their opening round three points after a round two bye.

“We are hoping to add to our three points this weekend,” says Hayes.

“The fact that it is a local derby gives it an edge, but in all honesty, the team that doesn’t get to wound up will be in a stronger position. At the end of the day it’s 90 minutes of football.

“I’ve had conversations with Coxy the Wanderers coach and we are both looking forward to a good honest game. Hopefully the weather will not affect the game too much.”

Wanderers are coming off an impressive draw against one of the leagues power houses in Glenfield and Hayes believe that will have given Steven Cox’s side a boost of confidence.

“The result against Glenfield must have been a great boost to their confidence knowing they can go toe to toe with one of the top clubs in the competition.

“We are under no illusions as to their capabilities so we will be taking the game very seriously. In saying that, I am sure they will be equally aware of our qualities.”

Rounding out Good Friday’s Women’s Premier action, two of three sides yet to register a point this season go head to head.

Ben Bate’s Forrest Hill Milford head north to take on the recently promoted Northland at Morningside Park.

Western Springs have the bye in round three.

All matches kick off at 1pm.
