PREVIEW | Lotto NRFL Women’s RD 8

The leagues two strongest defences go head to head this Sunday at Galloway Park with Claudelands Rovers hosting front runners Eastern Suburbs.

Rovers currently sit in third spot and Suburbs’ Rebekah Van Dort is well aware of the task ahead.

“We know Claudelands are going to be a really tough team,” Van Dort said.

“They’ve had really good results so far this season, and playing away is going to make it a lot harder.

“We know we have to bring our A-game, especially as they are coming off a great result against Three Kings.”

That result was a 2-2 draw thanks to a Kelli Brown double and it was a result that means Alan Hindson’s side have dropped five points in their last two fixtures, something they will hope not to add too this Friday night against Forrest Hill Milford.

Ben Bate’s side have received a timely boost ahead of their fixture against the 2016 champions, having secured the services of a pair of talented midfielders in Chloe Knott and Isabella Coombes. Knott and Coombes will both add a vast range of experience to what is otherwise a very young side.

Western Springs are coming off a big win against bottom of the table Northland, and will look to continue that fine scoring form when they take on Hamilton Wanderers, another team who is yet to win a game this season.

Rounding out the weekend’s action, Northland’s weekend doesn’t get any easier from the last with Glenfield Rovers this time making the trip north to Morningside Park.

Norwest United have the round 8 bye.
